“Chargers D/ST at 138: two home games to open the season, with flexibility to stream afterward.”

MemoPrivate from other managers · public to you

I drafted the Chargers D/ST as a two-week opening play, not a season-long commitment. They open at home against Arizona and Las Vegas; RotoWire's September 4 analysis had them as 9.5-point Week 1 favorites and its third-ranked Week 2 defense. Sports Illustrated's September 8 rankings independently favored their opening matchup. Those are published forecasts, not assured results, but they support looking beyond the packet's top six defenses.

Pittsburgh was the closest alternative: its 7.94 Week 1 database projection beats Los Angeles's 7.48, and its recent sack production is stronger. However, Pittsburgh has secondary availability and integration questions, while Los Angeles offers a useful second matchup. Minnesota and Detroit have slightly higher season projections, but I expect to stream this slot, making those totals less relevant. The Chargers have their own risks: Jesse Minter's departure, a new coordinator, and an injured offensive line that could undermine favorable game scripts. Brissett is not automatically a turnover-prone opponent. I will reassess before Buffalo in Week 3.

I chose defense before kicker because both managers between my picks still need both positions, and I preferred securing this particular opening schedule over choosing among closely grouped kickers now. The final pick will fill kicker; Dicker's unresolved injury flag needs more than optimistic preseason comments before I rely on him. Facing my own McBride does not outweigh the Chargers' expected value.

Exploring team opportunities

I need to consider the various opportunities for teams like PIT, LAC, MIN, and DET. I've got about 10 minutes to make a decision. I think I need some preparation, especially on defense, but it sounds like two players are probably already taken. I'm leaning towards preferring LAC, especially since they've been performing well. Should I search further for any upcoming stats or match details? That could help me finalize my choice!

Analyzing Chargers news impact

I think the news related to the Chargers can really influence opinions and predictions about their performance. Minter’s uncertain position doesn’t seem to have a huge effect, which is interesting. The Steelers are dealing with a lot of injuries, making the Chargers favored, especially with their win-loss record benefiting them in this matchup. I'll need to search specifically for relevant updates and check pages for the latest information.

## Available players (top by projection; there are more, query_stats can find them)

Columns: wk_proj is projected fantasy points this week, last_wk and avg are what the player actually scored last week and per week so far this season, seas_proj the season projection, adp the average draft position (lower means drafted earlier; it is not a projection). FA marks a free agent: add_drop signs one immediately, at any turn, for nothing. waivers marks a player who can only be claimed with a FAAB bid at the next waiver run. Status column: Out, Doubtful, IR, PUP and suspensions are hard statuses. "flag" is Sleeper's questionable tag with the body part when known: a soft signal, often a minor camp issue, and there is no official NFL injury report until the practice reports of game week. "QB2 on depth chart" and the like is the team's listed depth order (1 starts). "report:" is the official NFL injury report, filed by the team: the game designation (Out, Doubtful, Questionable, or none) and the latest practice participation (DNP, limited, full).

Analyzing LAC evidence

Okay, I’m looking at LAC and there's a projected PIT of +0.46, which seems to outweigh W2 and injuries. The DEF MIN92 vs 86 shows a difference of 0.35, but that seems irrelevant for streaming. I think I need to draft some notes for confirmation first, and maybe rewrite those later. It feels important to retain this information for larger context. Let's make sure I clarify everything before finalizing!

Clarifying candidate queries

I’ve got my notes concise enough with all the updated information saved. Now, I need to prepare for potential candidate queries for the next turn. I’ll add that the season starts on Wednesday with SEA, regardless of the roster situation. I should also note that the Chargers are taking a different approach with McBride, which could be negative. Additionally, I want to clarify that there’s no urgent need for K along with the two others. My confidence level is at 84%.

Addressing truncation concerns

I’m noticing that the tool has a maximum character limit of 5000, which might be leading to issues with truncation since my previous notes were around 7000 characters. If the server truncated my input at 7977 characters, I need to rewrite it to stay under 5000 while keeping all the essential points. I’ll focus on preserving the critical content, especially about Purdy, while rewriting down to about 4700 characters.

Assessing text limits

I’m trying to make sure my notes stay within the 5000 character limit. Currently, it’s about 5200, but I need to trim it down. The first 4500 characters are usually safe, but I want to retain important details for future reference. Should I cut by about 10% to reach around 4950 characters? I don’t want to use additional tools if I don’t have to, so I’ll work with what I have. Let's finish this up!

    # Pittsburgh Steelers Fantasy Football Outlook (2026) By Andrew Erickson (FantasyPros), Thu, Sep 3rd 2026, 10:30am EDT Week 1? Home versus the Atlanta Falcons. That in itself justifies selecting the Steelers DST. They also come in at No. 4 in the projections - but this unit has seen a fall-off over the last 2 seasons (4 to 9). The Steelers' secondary was shredded at times last season, allowing the fourth-most passing yards per game and ranking third in total missed tackles. FA acquisitions Jaquan Brisker and Jamel Dean should help bolster the back-end, but this defense STILL projects as one of

Streaming Defense Week 1: D/ST Picks & Fantasy Matchups | RotoWire # Streaming Defenses: D/ST Picks for Week 1 Jerry Donabedian analyzes the top streaming options for Week 1 and discusses his D/ST strategy for the long season ahead, complete with Top-20 Ranks for Week 1, Week 2 and Rest-of-Season. September 4, 2026 By: Jerry Donabedian @Lurn2Reed September 4, 2026 Streaming Defenses Welcome back to Streaming Defenses, your weekly guide for managing that pesky D/ST position at the bottom of fantasy rosters. We'll identify the five best streaming plays each week while also providing top-20 rankings for the current week, the following week and the rest of the season. The week-to-week inconsistency can be frustrating when we cycle through defenses based on matchups, but year-to-year results are surprisingly consistent. I've found that a proactive streaming approach usually yields a cumulative point total in the same range as the 2nd-5th best D/STs in any given season. Last year, only the Seahawks (10.2 PPG) and Texans (9.6) averaged more than 8.5 fantasy points per game under Yahoo default settings. If you drafted any other defense and stuck with them long term, you were either losing ground or breaking even against proactive, well-informed D/ST streamers (like us!). Philadelphia's defense, for example, rightfully had a lot of preseason hype and was often the first or second D/ST off the board in fantasy leagues. The Eagles mostly played well in real life, but mediocre takeaway numbers led to an inconsequential seventh-place finish in fantasy scoring (7.9 points per game). Meanwhile, I averaged 9.1 points by streaming defenses in my Yahoo league with a $400 buy-in and 12 teams. A quick audit of last year's Streaming Defenses shows similar results, with our top picks of the week averaging 9.44 points, while the overall average for all 90 defenses (5 picks x 18 weeks) was 8.31 fantasy points (seen in the bottom-right corner below). 2025 Streaming Defenses Audit (Yahoo Standard Scoring) | Week | No. 1 | FP1 | No. 2 | FP2 | No. 3 | FP3 | No. 4 | FP4 | No. 5 | FP5 | | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | 1 | ARZ | 5 | WAS | 9 | CIN | 7 | JAX | 11 | LAR | 11 | | | 2 | LAR | 8 | SF | 5 | DAL | 1 | MIA | 8 | NE | 13 | | | 3 | SEA | 22 | TB | 14 | IND | 15 | ATL | 3 | WAS | 11 | | | 4 | DET | 19 | NE | 11 | LAC | 6 | MIA | 8 | WAS | 2 | | | 5 | ARZ | 7 | NYG | 1 | IND | 17 | CLE | 7 | KC | 7 | | | 6 | LV | 16 | NE | 5 | IND | 4 | DAL | 2 | JAX | 2 | | | 7 | KC | 13 | NE | 19 | SEA | 9 | CHI | 13 | MIA | 2 | | | 8 | IND | 7 | ATL | 0 | CIN | -4 | BUF | 17 | BAL | 4 | | | 9 | LAR | 9 | DET | 7 | BAL | 15 | JAX | 3 | SF | 2 | | | 10 | CAR | 5 | BUF | 3 | CLE | 5 | JAX | 11 | NYJ | 19 | | | 11 | NE | 5 | BAL | 9 | ATL | 4 | GB | 7 | PIT | 21 | | | 12 | LV | 5 | NO | 11 | CLE | 16 | ATL | 16 | BUF | 6 | | | 13 | JAX | 14 | LAC | 8 | SF | 11 | MIA | 9 | ATL | 2 | | | 14 | TB | 5 | BAL | 0 | KC | 4 | MIA | 16 | GB | 3 | | | 15 | JAX | 10 | SF | 0 | CHI | 18 | DAL | 1 | CAR | 6 | | | 16 | BUF | 8 | NO | 19 | KC | 2 | SF | 12 | MIN | 11 | | | 17 | NE | 7 | JAX | 7 | TB | 3 | DET | 7 | GB | -3 | | | 18 | BUF | 5 | MIN | 11 | JAX | 13 | KC | 11 | CIN | 12 | | | AVG | | 9.44 | | 7.72 | | 8.11 | | 9.00 | | 7.28 | 8.31 | We should be able to capture that same magic this year, relying on a mix of betting odds, QB trends and injury reports to identify streaming options with strong projections for sacks, takeaways and defensive TDs. Point prevention is also part of the scoring equation on most fantasy platforms, but it frankly doesn't add up to much besides the rare occasions when an opponent scores six or fewer points. The difference between allowing 10 points and 25 points in real life might only amount to a gap of three fantasy points. ESPN default settings do add an aspect of yardage prevention, so there's slightly less emphasis on sacks/turnovers relative to the rest of the fantasy industry. But even then, it's still the sacks and turnovers that do the real heavy lifting for fantasy scoring. Note: These recommendations are limited to team defenses that are rostered on less than 60 percent of teams on Yahoo or Sleeper. Any references to fantasy points are based on Yahoo standard scoring, which doesn't include yards allowed. ## Top Streaming Options for Week 1 > Note: If you haven't drafted yet and plan to stream D/STs all season, I recommend the Jaguars, Chargers or Steelers as endgame picks to get things started. All have highly favorable home matchups Week 1, and the Chargers are also a top play for Week 2. 2026 Opponent Implied Totals for Weeks 1-17 (From Look-Ahead Lines) 1. Los Angeles Chargers (vs. ARZ) - 65% Yahoo, 56% Sleeper - Team implied total: 28.5 Opponent implied total: 19.0 - Upcoming Ranks (Projected) — Week 2: 3rd (vs. LV), Week 3: 24th (at BUF) The Chargers are already rostered in a lot of leagues, but they technically meet the requirements for this article and are often available during the final round of fantasy drafts. While Jesse Minter's departure for Baltimore creates schematic questions, the Chargers nonetheless are positioned for a strong start to the season with home games against Arizona and Las Vegas. No team is a larger favorite for Week 1 (-9.5). 2. Tennessee Titans (vs. NYJ) - 13% Yahoo, 6% Sleeper - Team implied total: 21.0 Opponent implied total: 18.5 - Upcoming Ranks (Projected) — Week 2: 26th (vs. PHI), Week 3: 22nd (at NYG) I'm mostly targeting the Chargers, Jaguars and Steelers as streaming-minded picks at the end of fantasy drafts. If not one of those three, I might scoop the Eagles if they're still available late. When all else fails, the Week 1 matchup between Tennessee and Gang Green offers hope for D/ST streaming value, if only on account of offensive incompetence. I'm not so sure the Titans should be favored here, but it's also hard to argue for the Jets being favored on the road against anyone, beside

Schaben / Los Angeles Times, Kyusung Gong / Los Angeles Times, Jeff Lewis / Associated Press, Doug Benc / Associated Press) Sam Farmer Sun, September 6, 2026 at 11:00 AM UTC· After a 2025 season in which their offensive line disintegrated before their eyes, the Chargers had every reason to believe this would be a bounce-back year. They thought they could build a fortress around quarterback Justin Herbert, providing him an airtight pocket to pick apart defenses. Already, that line is beginning to crumble. Tyler Biadasz, the talented center they signed to a three-year, $30-million deal in March, suffered a knee injury in training camp and is done for the year. Rookie Jake Slaughter moves to that critical spot, and although the second-round pick played that position in college, the Chargers were hoping to start him at guard. Meanwhile, left tackle Rashawn Slater, who missed all of last season after sustaining a knee injury in training camp, was sidelined for much of August because of a flare-up to that same knee. It's an ominous start to the third season under Jim Harbaugh, who has found significant success at every one of his coaching stops. He guided the Chargers to the playoffs in both of his first two seasons, but they responded with poor one-and-done performances, first at Houston and then at New England. Still, Harbaugh believes the team has elite leaders on both sides of the ball, in Herbert and All-Pro safety Derwin James, and that this team has the capability to not only win a postseason game — something the Chargers haven't done since 2019 — but contend for a Super Bowl that will be played on their home field. "So much investment has been made, when you make an investment and you pull it back out, you get the dividend," Harbaugh said. "There's a lot in there and we're very capable. ... That's the feeling, that's the excitement." Former Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel joins the staff as offensive coordinator and has been working for months with Herbert to fine-tune his footwork, particularly in the shotgun formation, so that he can get the ball out quicker. View larger image Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert passes before a preseason game against the Rams at SoFi Stadium on Aug. 27. (Allen J. Schaben / Los Angeles Times) Chris O'Leary has been promoted to defensive coordinator, taking over for a career mentor in Jesse Minter, who was impressive enough in his coordinator duties last season that the Baltimore Ravens hired him to replace John Harbaugh. Heading into training camp, Jim Harbaugh made the analogy of the Chargers ramping up like an airplane. It was an appropriate comparison seeing as his team traveled more than any other in the NFL last season, opening the year against Kansas City in Brazil. This season, the Chargers have a long runway followed by a dramatic ascent. They open against three first-time head coaches, then face four Super Bowl-winning head coaches in a row. Their first three games are against Arizona (Mike LaFleur), Las Vegas (Klint Kubiak) and Buffalo (Joe Brady), before squaring off against Seattle (Mike Macdonald), Denver (Sean Payton), Kansas City (Andy Reid) and — after a week off — the Rams (Sean McVay). The Chargers headed into the draft with the No. 22 pick and two pressing needs: edge rusher and guard. They went defense and took Miami pass rusher Akheem Mesidor, who gives them depth at the position after Odafe Oweh signed a robust free-agent deal with Washington. Mesidor is in a rotational role behind Khalil Mack and Tuli Tuipulotu, and can learn from both of them before truly stepping into the spotlight. Last year, the Chargers used the identical 22nd pick on North Carolina running back Omarion Hampton, who showed flashes of promise as a rookie but also slogged through an injury-plagued season. He finished with 737 yards from scrimmage on 156 touches, playing in nine games. The Chargers have not had a 1,000-yard rusher since Melvin Gordon in 2017, although the running game is a central component of McDaniel's offense. The team's new running backs coach is Max McCaffrey, the older brother of Christian McCaffrey, All-Pro running back for the San Francisco 49ers. Their father is longtime NFL receiver Ed McCaffrey, a favorite target of John Elway in Denver. When McDaniel was head coach of the Miami Dolphins, he brought on Max as an offensive assistant from 2023-25. When McDaniel got the Chargers job, he brought Max with him, giving him a key position to oversee. Joked McDaniel: "For fantasy owners out there, if you're not liking your output, you have Max to blame." This story originally appeared in Los Angeles Times.

The Chargers will host the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday to kick off the 2026 campaign. Los Angeles survived the preseason avoiding major injuries with the exception of losing starting center Tyler Biadasz for the season with a severe knee injury suffered during joint practice with the San Francisco 49ers. They also lost offensive lineman Branson Taylor to an injury that led to him starting the season on injured reserve but with a designated to return label. The coaching and training staff played it very cautious during the preseason with any minor injuries or bumps and bruises. The first official injury report of the year will be released later this week but the Chargers are already receiving good injury updates. Chargers speed weapons, running back Keaton Mitchell and wide receiver Brenen Thompson, finally returned to practice. Both Mitchell and Thompson have missed several practices in a row and the start of their season has been a question mark without them on the field. > RB Keaton Mitchell is back at Chargers practice after missing the last six. WR Brenen Thompson is also back pic.twitter.com/0Vl1eFcEXD > > — Kris Rhim (@krisrhim1) September 7, 2026 Mitchell's injury was the most concerning heading into the regular season. There was speculation that he may start the season on injured reserve, simply due to the nature of how the coaching staff was discussing his injury and the lack of information available. Offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel said that Mitchell suffered a setback. General manager Joe Hortiz spoke after roster cutdown day and mentioned that Mitchell was working through something but indicated it was not a significant injury and the fact that the team did not place him on injured reserve should be an indicator of where he is at. > Chargers GM Joe Hortiz said he doesn't expect RB Keaton Mitchell to go on IR and anticipates him playing Week 1: “That’s what he’s working for. Yeah. He’s working through something, but nothing [major] Let's put it this way: we could put him down on IR today like we did with… > > — Kris Rhim (@krisrhim1) August 31, 2026 Mitchell's role on the offense as the speed receiving option creates significant mismatches for most linebackers and Justin Herbert was not afraid to throw him the ball during training camp. Mitchell being back is an upgrade for the offense and the explosive potential. Speaking of explosive potential, lightning-fast rookie wide receiver Brenen Thompson has missed several practices in a row and his return to the field brings an additional layer of field-stretching capabilities. Defenses are forced to respect Thompson's speed and this respect creates additional space, that space helps in both the run game and creates greater yards after the catch opportunities for all of the pass catchers. Getting both Mitchell and Thompson back is positive news for the Chargers offense and gives them time to work out any kinks together. The Chargers will start a brutal stretch of games starting with division rival Las Vegas, who aims to be much improved this season, in Week 2 through Week 10 when the Chargers face off against former defensive coordinator Jesse Minter and the Baltimore Ravens. > The Chargers have the hardest 8 game stretch in NFL history dude LMAO pic.twitter.com/Pqcm0Nu1Z4 > > — garrett (@jalenreagors) September 1, 2026

Week 1 Start ’Em, Sit ’Em Fantasy Team Defenses and Kickers ## Start ’Em, Sit ’Em (Week 1): QB | RB | WR | TE | Def./K Start ’Em, Sit ’Em is the ultimate look at the best and worst matchups based on a PPR scoring system in fantasy football leagues. This column will not cover elite NFL players such as Josh Allen, Bijan Robinson, Ja’Marr Chase, or Trey McBride. Instead, it will focus on players who could exceed or fall short of their statistical expectations at each position. For all your final lineup decisions, check out my weekly player rankings, which will be updated daily in-season. Note: Streamers listed are players started in fewer than 50% of Sleeper fantasy leagues. ## Fab’s Five Top 10 Fantasy Defense Rankings For Week 1 1. Jaguars defense vs. Browns 2. Chargers defense vs. Cardinals 3. Rams defense vs. 49ers (Thurs.) 4. Seahawks defense vs. Patriots (Wed.) 5. Steelers defense vs. Falcons 6. Broncos defense at Chiefs (Mon.) 7. Raiders defense vs. Dolphins 8. Titans defense vs. Jets 9. Lions defense vs. Saints 10. Texans defense vs. Bills Complete Week 1 defense rankings ## Week 1 Start ’Em Defenses ## Start of the Week Jaguars defense vs. Browns (1 p.m. ET, CBS): The Jaguars are going to be the most started defense in fantasy football this week, as a plus home matchup against the Browns awaits. Cleveland’s offense is questionable at best with Deshaun Watson under center, so Jacksonville should put up several takeaways in the matchup. Cleveland’s offensive line is also vulnerable, so look for the Jaguars to put plenty of pressure on Watson in what could be a one-sided contest. ## Start ’Em Chargers defense vs. Cardinals (4:25 p.m. ET, CBS): The Chargers’ defense will also be a popular starting option this week based on their favorable home matchup against the Cardinals. A near 10-point favorite, Los Angeles figures to control this game and should force Jacoby Brissett into some bad decisions and turnovers. Even if Cardinals rookie Jeremiyah Love is able to return from his ankle injury, the Bolts have a great matchup and should produce electric fantasy stats. Steelers defense vs. Falcons (1 p.m. ET, Fox): The Falcons’ offense has two stars in Bijan Robinson and Drake London, but their quarterback situation is one of the most unsettled in the league. Tua Tagovailoa will start this week, but it’s not a good matchup for him against the Steel Curtain, which should be able to produce several sacks and force the Falcons quarterback into a few giveaways. Look for this unit to be among the 10 best based on fantasy points. ## More Starts - Lions defense vs. Saints (1 p.m. ET, Fox) - Ravens defense at Colts (1 p.m. ET, CBS) - Vikings defense vs. Packers (4:25 p.m. ET, Fox) ## Team Defense Streamers - Raiders defense vs. Dolphins (12%) … Plus home matchup vs. projected low-scoring offense - Titans defense vs. Jets (6%) … Jets allowed 60 sacks, committed 23 giveaways in 2025 - Jets defense at Titans (2%) … Titans allowed 56 sacks in 2025; Cam Ward struggled in preseason ## Week 1 Sit ’Em Defenses ## Sit of the Week Texans defense vs. Bills (1 p.m. ET, CBS): The Texans have arguably the best defense in the league, so take this as more of a “beware” than a hard sit ’em. It’s never advisable to start most defenses against Josh Allen and the Bills’ offense, which averaged 28.3 points and 376.3 yards a season ago. As a result, if you can stream a defense like the Jaguars, Chargers, Lions or even the Titans or Raiders, sitting the Texans’ D is at least worth your consideration. ## Sit ’Em Packers defense at Vikings (4:25 p.m. ET, CBS): The Packers’ defense is going to be a tough sell in most weeks in which the matchup isn’t favorable, as pass-rush specialist Micah Parsons is out several weeks as he works to return from a torn ACL. I’d also throw out all the stats from a year ago that made the Vikings a preferable matchup for opposing defenses since Kyler Murray, not J.J. McCarthy, will now be under center. For now, Green Bay should be on the waiver wire. Bills defense at Texans (1 p.m. ET, CBS): The Bills have a very streamable defense when the matchup is right, but this week’s tilt in Houston doesn’t fit the bill. The Texans turned the football over just 12 times last season (only the Bears had fewer giveaways), and their O-line gave up a modest 31 sacks of C.J. Stroud and their quarterbacks. So while this might not be a high-scoring affair, Buffalo could struggle to force point-producing stats for managers. ## More Sits - Patriots defense at Seahawks (Wed. 8:20 p.m. ET, NBC) - 49ers defense at Rams (Thurs. 8:35 p.m. ET, Netflix) - Browns defense at Jaguars (1 p.m. ET, CBS) ## Fab’s Five Top 10 Fantasy Kicker Rankings For Week 1 1. Brandon Aubrey at Giants 2. Ka’im Fairbairn vs. Bills 3. Cameron Dicker vs. Cardinals 4. Cam Little vs. Browns 5. Jason Myers vs. Patriots (Wed.) 6. Harrison Mevis vs. 49ers (Thurs.) 7. Tyler Loop at Colts 8. Chase McLaughlin at Bengals 9. Will Reichard vs. Packers 10. Cairo Santos at Panthers Complete Week 1 kicker rankings ## Week 1 Start ’Em Kickers ## Start of the Week Cameron Dicker vs. Cardinals (4:25 p.m. ET, CBS): Dicker has one of the best matchups among kickers this week, facing a Cardinals defense that was one of the most generous to the position a year ago. Only the Jets allowed more points to kickers, and just five booters failed to score nine or more points against them. In a game that boasts a likely total in the mid- to high 40s in points, look for Dicker to have plenty of opportunities to produce points for fantasy managers. ## Start ’Em Tyler Loop at Colts (1 p.m. ET, CBS): Loop had an up-and-down rookie campaign, and he ultimately finished a respectable 12th in points among kickers. He should have a fast start to his second season, as Loop starts with a plus matchup against the Colts. Last season, their defense allowed two kickers to beat them for 22 points, and 10 opposing booters scored at least nine points. Playing in
