“At No. 58, Astra selects Luther Burden III—betting on an expanded role and second-year PPR upside.”

MemoPrivate from other managers · public to you

I selected Luther Burden at 58. We need a third starting-caliber receiver, and his path to substantially more routes after DJ Moore's departure is attractive in full PPR. His rookie production came on only a 39% average snap share in the database, with targets rising late in the season. More playing time could turn that efficiency into meaningful weekly volume, although Odunze and Loveland remain serious competition.

The groin injury was the deciding research question. Burden missed the preseason, but returned to running routes September 1; Ben Johnson said he looked 100%, and September 6 reporting still had him on track for the opener. That is encouraging, not an official unrestricted-practice designation. I am accepting a recovering soft-tissue injury, not pretending I bought guaranteed availability. With Nabers already carrying substantial recovery risk, another usable receiver remains a priority at 63.

Christian Watson was the closest alternative: currently healthier, a clearer receiver room, and substantial upside. His 5.5 targets per game and touchdown-heavy production make him less of a stable PPR floor than an unflagged status might suggest. I preferred Burden's volume-growth potential and judged Burden somewhat less likely to survive the four intervening picks. Evans leads the remaining receiver projections, but age, multiple camp muscle injuries, and a new offense add uncertainty; Adams has excellent end-zone opportunity but more touchdown dependence. Montgomery was tempting at the last strong projected RB tier, yet reporting describes a near-even committee with Marks rather than a secure workhorse. Quarterback can wait: the available projection tier is still very flat. Burden is an upside investment at a useful price, with an explicit need to keep building receiver depth.

Evaluating WR options

I need to choose a healthy, reliable wide receiver, considering Evans despite Burden or Watson. I think I need more info on Evans' full report, and it’s important to check on Adams and Burden's role since DJ is gone. We have ample tokens, with about 10 million and 8,000 already noted. I should ensure I keep things concise moving forward. Evans is 33 with a lower catch rate, while Burden and Watson have different factors to weigh.

Gathering practice details

I need to find details for primary practice in Chicago. I’m considering what specific information would be helpful—like locations, schedules, and maybe the types of services they offer. It might also be useful to gather insights about the staff or any notable features. I’m curious about how accessible it is for the user. I’ll check reliable resources to make sure I’m getting accurate and current info for them. Let’s see what I can find!

## Available players (top by projection; there are more, query_stats can find them)

Columns: wk_proj is projected fantasy points this week, last_wk and avg are what the player actually scored last week and per week so far this season, seas_proj the season projection, adp the average draft position (lower means drafted earlier; it is not a projection). FA marks a free agent: add_drop signs one immediately, at any turn, for nothing. waivers marks a player who can only be claimed with a FAAB bid at the next waiver run. Status column: Out, Doubtful, IR, PUP and suspensions are hard statuses. "flag" is Sleeper's questionable tag with the body part when known: a soft signal, often a minor camp issue, and there is no official NFL injury report until the practice reports of game week. "QB2 on depth chart" and the like is the team's listed depth order (1 starts). "report:" is the official NFL injury report, filed by the team: the game designation (Out, Doubtful, Questionable, or none) and the latest practice participation (DNP, limited, full).

Addressing character limits

I’m noticing that notes seem to have a character limit issue, and it looks like part of our submission got truncated. It seems we need to rewrite the entire text to fit within the 5000 character limit while ensuring the core message is prioritized. I want to make sure we communicate essential information without losing anything important that might have been lost in this truncation. The goal is to keep it concise and human-readable, targeting around 4700 characters.

Managing token limits

I see that I'm still over 5000 tokens and need to trim down the last 1500. I have about 4 minutes left, so I'll need to act fast. I have enough tokens remaining, but the tool can only handle 5000 characters. I want to make sure I keep the essentials under 5000, aiming for around 3600. I can rewrite up to 4000 tokens, but I can't go beyond that. Let's focus on making it concise!

We know this is getting into the weeds, but Reed’s weekly range of outcomes will be somewhat dependent on his access to heavy personnel packages. Wagoner notes that linebacker Nick Bosa (knee) and running back Christian McCaffrey (undisclosed) were the only 49ers players who didn't appear to be mixing into team drills during the open portion of practice, so Evans appears likely to have been at least a limited participant in Monday's session. The 49ers will release their first injury report of the season later Monday, when the extent of Evans' practice participation will be revealed. 49ers news: Mike Evans downplays missing time: ‘None of my injuries were significant’ | Niners Nation # Mike Evans downplays missing time: ‘None of my injuries were significant’ Mike Evans believed he could have practiced in recent weeks had it been a game week by Kyle Posey Sep 7, 2026, 8:18 PM UTC Several members of the San Francisco 49ers returned to practice. It’s hard to overstate how important defenders like Renardo Green, Romello Height, and Gracen Halton are to the defense. Depth is already at a premium across the board. The pass rush was bleak in 2025. The rookies will play a big role in the defense’s success. As much as we focus on the rookies on offense, they’ll go as far as Mike Evans takes them. I get the feeling everybody in the building is aware of that, and that’s why the team has been as cautious with Evans since training camp began. During a recent press conference, Evans downplayed his injuries, saying he would have been on the field had it been a game week: “The training staff, they did a great job working with me. I know I’m an older player. I’ve had probably over a thousand practices, football practices in my life now, so I know what I’m doing out there. They know what they’re doing. They did a good job taking care of me. None of my injuries were significant. If it was a game week, I wouldn’t have missed any time.” Evans sustained a groin injury during a preseason practice. He also failed to finish the joint practice against the Chargers, where he was seen with an ice wrap on his left quad. Evans practicing early in the week will be what we look for all season. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said, “he’s never practiced three days in a row,” so expect Evans to get plenty of veteran days off, much like Christian McCaffrey and Trent Williams. Luther Burden Injury Update From Ben Johnson All But Confirms Bears WR's Week 1 status Panic set in real fast after wide receiver Luther Burden suffered a groin injury at Chicago Bears training camp earlier this month. And it's understandable why. Burden is hugely important to the Bears' offense in 2026 and not having him for any length of time would be a tough blow for Caleb Williams and Ben Johnson's offense. Thankfully, the Bears ended up dodging a bullet, but we still did not know what the deal was when it comes to Burden's Week 1 status. ## Luther Burden injury update Well, we now have a better idea of where Burden stands in his recovery from the groin injury. Prior to kickoff of the preseason finale against the Tennessee Titans on Saturday night, Burden was once again on the field doing work like he was the week prior, which was yet another fantastic sign for his recovery. "Maybe not 100% but he's running routes and getting in and out his breaks. That bodes well for potential Week 1 availability two weeks from tomorrow," the Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs said. After the game, head coach Ben Johnson said it looks like the second-year wideout is fully healthy again. "He looks 100% to me," Johnson said of Burden. So, there you have it. Barring a setback, Burden is going to play in the regular season opener against the Carolina Panthers on Sept. 13. ## Luther Burden set for big role in Year 2 While DJ Moore was very disappointing with Caleb Williams over two seasons, he was still a key part of the passing attack that the Bears are going to miss in 2026. That is, if Burden doesn't adequately step up into his place, something we believe he's capable of doing and then some. Before his injury, Burden looked phenomenal in training camp and it is quite clear he's ascending ahead of his second season and should at least pick up where he left off in 2025. “I’m buying Luther Burden stock right now," Johnson said earlier this offseason. "We've got to go play games and he's got to finish this thing off. But if there's a guy that I'm really excited about, it's Luther Burden — just because of how much he's grown from the day he walked in this building," general manager Ryan Poles said. The hype for Burden is real, and it's not just made up by fans. The team is legitimately excited about what the 2025 second-round pick can do and we can't wait to see him deliver. Christian Watson Fantasy Prediction 2026: PFN Ranks Him 23 Spots Above His ADP Christian Watson Fantasy Prediction 2026: # Christian Watson Fantasy Prediction 2026: PFN Ranks Him 23 Spots Above His ADP Christian Watson was already efficient after returning from his ACL tear. Another year removed, the only thing standing between and WR1 upside is health. September 5, 2026 | 8:50 AM EDT Christian Watson was an afterthought in fantasy drafts a year ago and finished the season looking like a legitimate WR1. The injury that scared everyone off is now well behind him. Green Bay has cleaned up the receiver room around him and could be throwing more than ever this season. Fantasy managers should be asking why his price has not caught up. Run a full draft against AI opponents before the real one. Set your league size, slot, and scoring with PFN's FREE Fantasy Draft Simulator and see how your board actually falls. ## Should You Draft Christian Watson in Fantasy Football? There is a chasm of perceptions around Watson, the Green Bay Packers wide receiver. The chasm of perception can be adequately quantified by the gap between user ADP and the PFN rank among PFN analysts. As of early September, the user ADP for Watson is just 70.8, but PFN’s consensus analyst rank for him between Jason Katz and Kyle Soppe is 48th, almost a full 23 spots above that ADP. He is the WR24, with a projected points per game in 2026 of 13.2. Watson signed a four-year, $92 million extension with incentives reaching $110 million this past summer. Many were skeptical about that extension for Watson because of his inability at times to stay healthy. He’s never played a full season fully healthy in the NFL and has twice missed at least 7 games in a given season. Nevertheless, within the most recent partial sample, 10 games in 2025, Watson’s analytics were extremely promising. He generated 2.54 yards per route run over that stretch, which ranked fourth in the NFL. His 0.5 EPA per target was ninth in the NFL. His 16.1% catch rate over expectation was fourth in the NFL. His 1.8% drop rate was the lowest of his entire career to this point. When he was available in 2025, he ranked 13th among fantasy wide receivers in points per game. He had 4 top-12 weekly finishes and a career-best 5.5 targets per game. He did all of this coming off a torn ACL in 2024. In my opinion, there’s a dichotomy between Watson’s long-term history and the indicators in the more recent sample. He’s never finished higher than WR41 in PPR leagues, but when he was on the field in 2025, he flashed exciting upside. You still saw the sub-4.4 speed and the deep-threat ability at 6’4″, 215 pounds. Eleven of his 35 catches in 2025 went for 20-plus yards. But he’s also learning how to weaponize his fluidity as a route runner, and his catch-point ability, which was a weakness in college, has become a bona fide strength for him. If he can stay healthy, Watson is the Packers’ WR1. Let’s not debate that at all. When he’s healthy, that is his role in this offense. Matthew Golden and Jayden Reed are not going to take that away from him for sure. But ultimately, he has to prove that he can stay healthy. If he does, he’s catching passes from a budding passer in Jordan Love and brings the balance of volume upside and big-play generation that fantasy managers covet. If it all comes down to whether or not you’re willing to bet on him staying available, then that’s going to be a case-by-case decision. Given the entropy of injuries league-wide, I’m willing to bet on Watson, even slightly above his current ADP. I am aligned with PFN’s fantasy analysts in saying that the ultimate upside can be a game-changer for your team. ## Christian Watson’s Week 1 Fantasy Outlook Analysis provided by PFN Analyst Kyle Soppe. The Packers didn’t have a 20-yard completion in Week 11 against these Vikes last season in Jordan Love’s lone start against the divisional rival. That’s not ideal for a player like Watson, but it should be noted that he did see one-third of the targets in that victory. You’re playing Watson for the upside (17.0 yards per catch for his career, a 48-game sample), and I think that exists in this matchup, but the ability he showed that afternoon to earn looks matters. The Packers allowed Dontayvion Wicks and Romeo Doubs to move on this summer, and while that’s not directly a vote of confidence in only Watson, it is a strong signal that they are confident in the developmental steps he can take in Year 5. Watson was targeted with Love’s very first pass of the preseason, and I expect him to fight for the team lead in this spot. When you have a 6’4” receiver that steps into a role like that, you want to be aggressive in drafting and playing him. You’ve already done the former. Now it’s time to put your money where your mouth is: Watson is a low-end WR2 for me this week, ranked ahead of former teammate Davante Adams. ## Where Watson Ranks Among 2026 Wide Receivers 20. Rome Odunze, D'Andre Swift, Kyle Monangai Monday Injury Updates Are Mixed Bag for Bears # Rome Odunze, D'Andre Swift, Kyle Monangai Monday Injury Updates Are Mixed Bag for Bears The Chicago Bears were back on the practice field on Monday and we received some injury updates on D'Andre Swift, Kyle Monangai and Rome Odunze. Mike Moraitis| Chicago Bears wide receiver Rome Odunze (15) signs autographs during Training Camp at Halas Hall. Mandatory Credit: Kamil Krzaczynski-Imagn Images | IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect In this story: The Chicago Bears held a short practice on Monday and we've got some injury updates on three key players, wide receiver Rome Odunze and running backs Kyle Monangai and D'Andre Swift. Unfortunately, it wasn't all good news, as Odunze did not take part in the session but Swift and Monangai both did, according to The Athletic's Kevin Fishbain. In what is more good news for Chicago, defensive end Austin Booker was at practice as well. "Bears RBs D'Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai were at practice today. DE Austin Booker practiced as well. No sign of WR Rome Odunze. Just a 40-minute practice to kick off Week 1," he said. Here's more information on Swift, Monangai and Odunze. ## D'Andre Swift injury update Chicago Bears running back D'Andre Swift (4) runs with the ball during Chicago Bears Minicamp at Halas Hall. Mandatory Credit: Kamil Krzaczynski-Imagn Images | IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect Swift exited practice early last week with what appeared to be a core injury at first. However, it was later revealed Swift was just dealing with a cramp. Because reporters have been wrong before (see: Coby Bryant), we couldn't possibly feel good until we saw Swift actually practicing. Well, we saw that on Monday. > Attendance check: D’Andre Swift & Kyle Monangai! Present! Good to see Nos. 4 & 25 ahead of Week 1! pic.twitter.com/i4N2Ai8h1w > > — CHGO Bears (@CHGO_Bears) September 7, 2026 There's the receipt we were looking for, both for Monangai and Swift. This puts both on track to suit up on Sunday. Swift is slated to lead the Bears' backfield once again this season after he broke the 1,000-yard mark in 2025. This is a crucial year for Swift, who is in the final year of his contract. ## Kyle Monangai injury update Chicago Bears running back Kyle Monangai (25) stretches during Minicamp at Halas Hall. Mandatory Credit: Kamil Krzaczynski-Imagn Images | IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect Before returning to practice on Monday, Monangai hadn't taken part in a practice since Aug. 16, when he came down with a hyperextended knee that left him week to week. Monangai's participation in practice is the first he has seen since his injury and there is no longer any doubt about his status for Sunday's contest against the Carolina Panthers. Monangai had an upstart rookie campaign that saw him break over 900 yards from scrimmage despite not having a regular role out of the gate. The second-year back should see ample work in the Bears' backfield despite having Swift in front of him. ## Rome Odunze injury update Chicago Bears wide receiver Rome Odunze (15) run on the field during Minicamp at Halas Hall. Mandatory Credit: Kamil Krzaczynski-Imagn Images | IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect Now for the bad news. Odunze suffered an apparent leg injury at practice last Thursday, but early reports suggested it wasn't anything to worry about. Clearly we need to start worrying after he didn't suit up for practice to start the week. The Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs reports that Odunze appeared to be dealing with a right ankle or foot issue when he got hurt initially. For the record, Odunze's foot issue from last season was to his left, not his right. Odunze sits atop the Bears' depth chart at wide receiver and is in a big year for his career as he looks to cement himself following an injury-plagued 2025 campaign. Odunze will have competition for targets, though, as Luther Burden and Colston Loveland will be heavily involved, also. Published 3 minutes ago

What it read · si.com · Figuring Out Zavion Thomas' Bears Role Amid so Many Weapons
Figuring Out Zavion Thomas' Bears Role Amid so Many Weapons # Figuring Out Zavion Thomas' Bears Role Amid so Many Weapons The Chicago Bears' offense has a pleasant problem deciding how to get a player as talented as Zavion Thomas touches with so many talented receivers available. Gene Chamberlain| Zavion Thomas' big preseason finale will no doubt have Ben Johnson trying to figure ways to include him in the game plan. | IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect In this story: How Ben Johnson plans to use receivers this season is something everyone would love to know from Bears fans to opposing defensive coaches and definitely to fantasy football owners trying to figure out whether Zavion Thomas is a player worth drafting or claiming. One thing is certain after the preseason finale and that is Johnson will use Thomas, one way or the other. It might be as a slot receiver, a wide receiver or even a running back in addition to duties on special teams. The threat of so much speed itself can spread out secondaries and make it easier for other receivers to get open, if not for Thomas to do it. Thomas, however, is unlikely to change the overall dynamic of the Bears' receiver usage. It is Luther Burden and not Thomas, Rome Odunze or even Kalif Raymond, who figures to take up the majority of the plays that went to DJ Moore last season. Moore led all receivers with 979 reps and last year Burden had only 402 plays, or 40% of plays when he was available. He started 5-of-15 games. Remember what Johnson said. "I’m buying Luther Burton stock right now,” the Bears coach said. “Just how he’s approached his offseason, it’s been electric. It showed up yesterday. He had numerous explosive plays.” ## How the Bears Will Distribute Reps Just because Burden will get more reps doesn't mean other receivers will lose them. Moore was used so often, other receivers might actually gain some over last year. Rome Odunze is one. Although he played 88% of the plays when he was available, he missed five games and still had 733 reps. > Zavion Thomas having a big game tonight is one of the best things that could have happened for the Bears offense. Like all rookies, Ben will start him slow & manufacture touches for him. As WR5, he won’t see the field a lot, although as a KR/PR we may see him more. But… > > — Kirsten Tanis (@Kirsten_Tanis1) August 30, 2026 Last year Burden actually had fewer reps than Olamide Zaccheaus, whose plays figure to be absorbed by Kalif Raymond and Thomas, as well. Zaccheaus had 480 reps. That's 1,459 reps between two receivers that must be distributed. It might not look anything like last year's work distribution because of the new participants and the way Johnson wants to run his offense. It's not easy to look at how Johnson's receivers in Detroit had their reps distributed, and assume he'd like it that way with the Bears. The strength of the group is different and they're stronger in different ways. In Detroit, he had Amon-Ra St. Brown on for 2,852 reps in three seasons, and when Jameson Williams gained full health for a full season during Johnson's last year as coordinator he had 826 reps. There's not really an ideal comparison between Odunze and Jameson because they're different types. The Bears' equivalent might be Thomas, who ran a 40 time similar to Jameson, but they don't really play the same position. > Can’t deny the speed of Zavion Thomas… as he burns a 3rd string CB… but I find it hard to believe he has any value in the dynasty world outside of best ball Let’s pump the brakes a little pic.twitter.com/JDdFT2Zrj4 > > — Nick (@Nick_EliteFF) August 30, 2026 It's not like Raymond figures to play a few downs and let Thomas take over that spot most of the time. "He's not a gadget guy," Johnson said of Raymond. "But he's unique in his ability to have enough speed to take it over the top, make defenses hurt that way, but also inside the numbers, outside the numbers, he's got elite quickness. :You get the ball in his hands, he's excellent in run after catch. So he's very, very versatile and I think he's going to be a huge part of what we do.” > Bears veteran WR Kalif Raymond has been staying 30-40 minutes after practice with rookie WR Zavion Thomas: "Colston getting 100 jugs before practice.. Jaylon (Johnson) catching jugs after practice. Me and Zavion (Thomas) staying 30-40 minutes after practice." pic.twitter.com/oPFJ5u288g > > — Dave (@davebftv) June 10, 2026 If the Bears can get that type of play from Thomas when he is in the game, it's what they would want. If they can get the deep routes from him as a downfield threat or to draw away defenders from other areas, then they'd probably take that. "You see the flashes," offensive coordinator Press Taylor said. :We get the reports at the end of the day of miles per hour, and he's always beyond 20. So that's something you see. You saw it in the (Tennessee) game the other day with a few opportunities and what he's able to do with it. "I don't know how many people have taken one 97 (yards) on their first touch in the NFL, but that's something he is gifted with. But there's so much more that goes into earning a role for yourself week to week, and so that's something he's going to continue to prove and earn as we go into the season." ## Capitalize on inconsistent reps is his aim The best way to put it might be Thomas' playing time will be an inconsistent number based on the group's health, his productivity when he gets it, and the game plan for a particular opponent. He'll get touches. There is even a limit on his special teams touches because Raymond can return punts, as well. > All Zavion Thomas touches. Looks to me like this guy wasn’t one of the biggest reaches of the draft. Quick in and out of breaks soft natural hands and explosive speed. This guy will pay dividends in the kicking game AND offense. #DaBears #Bears pic.twitter.com/0tk1fGkhe5 > > — Clay Harbor (@clayharbs82) August 30, 2026 The potential balanc

Bears WR Luther Burden was running routes at practice # Bears WR Luther Burden is trending in right direction for Week 1 Alyssa Barbieri Bears Wire Sept. 1, 2026, 4:13 p.m. CT The Chicago Bears got some good news on Tuesday with the return of wide receiver Luther Burden III, who was spotted running routes at practice just a few weeks removed from a groin injury. Burden suffered a groin injury on Aug. 8 when he got tangled up with cornerback Tyrique Stevenson during a one-on-one rep at practice. Burden was labeled as week-to-week and missed the entire preseason, but he was expected to return in time for the regular season. Burden has been ramping up from his groin injury, and head coach Ben Johnson said that "he looks 100% to me" after Chicago's preseason finale against the Tennessee Titans last Saturday night. That's great news for Burden's availability when the Bears face the Carolina Panthers in Week 1. Burden is coming off an impressive rookie season, where he totaled 47 catches on 60 targets for 652 yards and two touchdowns as a rookie, showcasing his impressive speed and playmaking ability. He's garnered plenty of hype this offseason and is primed for an extended role in Year 2 following DJ Moore's departure.
