“D’Andre Swift at No. 43: securing our RB2 before the tier thins, with receiver depth next on the agenda.”

MemoPrivate from other managers · public to you

I drafted D’Andre Swift as our RB2. Tetairoa McMillan was the strongest alternative, with Jaylen Waddle close behind: either would give us a healthy-looking receiver to protect against Nabers’ uncertain return. But with 14 picks before our next turn, I prefer securing this running-back tier now. The receiver pool remains substantially deeper than the backs below Swift, Montgomery, Irving and Judkins. That is a judgment about the likely two-pick combination, not a claim that Swift is the best player regardless of roster.

Swift produced 222.8 PPR points across 15 games in the database last season, with 213 carries and 33 receptions. He remained productive while already sharing substantial work with Monangai. Johnson’s comments about improved reads and comfort in the offense support continuity, though they do not promise more touches. Monangai is a real competitor, not a backup I can ignore.

I checked the abdominal flag rather than treating it as either a disqualifier or nothing. Schefter reported a cramp, and local reporting confirmed Swift returned Monday. That was a light, 40-minute session dominated by individual and positional work—not proof of full clearance. The available evidence makes this a more manageable concern than another major rehabilitation gamble, but the official injury report still matters.

Montgomery’s near-even camp split with Woody Marks undermines the idea that moving to Houston guarantees a workhorse role. Irving faces potential losses of receiving work to Gainwell and goal-line work to Tucker. Judkins offers younger, high-volume upside, but his receiving expansion is still a possibility rather than an established role, and Cleveland’s offensive environment adds uncertainty. I prefer Swift’s demonstrated production in his current offense.

The risk is passing on a second-year McMillan breakout or discovering that a comparable back would have survived to 58. I accept that risk and will prioritize receiver depth next rather than assuming Chase and Nabers are both ready for unrestricted Week 1 workloads.

Decision making for role assignment

I’m juggling some time constraints, wondering if I have about 10 minutes and checking the budget tokens—looks like I might have around 27 tokens left. My main decision centers around players: Swift, McMillan, or Irving. I need to focus on Swift’s role in detail, and Judkins for his three-down potential while he recovers from an ankle injury. I’ll be assessing projection gaps between running backs and wide receivers, leaning toward Swift unless there's a split in roles.

## Available players (top by projection; there are more, query_stats can find them)

Columns: wk_proj is projected fantasy points this week, last_wk and avg are what the player actually scored last week and per week so far this season, seas_proj the season projection, adp the average draft position (lower means drafted earlier; it is not a projection). FA marks a free agent: add_drop signs one immediately, at any turn, for nothing. waivers marks a player who can only be claimed with a FAAB bid at the next waiver run. Status column: Out, Doubtful, IR, PUP and suspensions are hard statuses. "flag" is Sleeper's questionable tag with the body part when known: a soft signal, often a minor camp issue, and there is no official NFL injury report until the practice reports of game week. "QB2 on depth chart" and the like is the team's listed depth order (1 starts). "report:" is the official NFL injury report, filed by the team: the game designation (Out, Doubtful, Questionable, or none) and the latest practice participation (DNP, limited, full).

After working his way back from an ankle and fibula injury suffered in Week 16 of the 2025 season, Cleveland Browns running back Quinshon Judkins is set for a large role in 2026. Unsurprisingly, Judkins is listed as the Browns' top running back on the depth chart, with Dylan Sampson and Raheim Sanders behind him. Judkins is in line for a high-volume role in an offense led by head coach Todd Monken and offensive coordinator Travis Switzer. Quinshon Judkins CLE Running Back#10 Player Stats ### Browns RB coach Duce Staley said he thinks Quinshon Judkins “can play all three downs” this season. Judkins earning a three-down role would be a massive development for the second-year back. Last season, Judkins appeared on only 35 third downs last season for the Browns, which ranked third-most on the team behind Jerome Ford (113) and Dylan Sampson (44). With Ford now in Washington, Judkins and Sampson should push for plenty of opportunities on third down this season, but any additional work for Judkins would add to what is already a strong

Revising team notes

I need to rewrite my notes to be more concise while keeping the necessary info about player roles. I have to decide on 10 spots with 6 bench players and starters like QB, WR, flex, and DEF. I’m considering having 3 to 4 WR starters and 3 RBs. The total roster should likely include 15 players, weighing options for flexibility with positions. I want to maintain some injury notes and reflect on trades. Overall, I should create a clearer plan for the draft!

Bears HC Ben Johnson predicting a big year for RB D'Andre Swift # Ben Johnson believes Bears RB D'Andre Swift is primed for a 'big year' Randy Holt Bears Wire Aug. 29, 2026, 8:15 a.m. CT It really doesn't matter where you look on the stat sheet. Just about every number will tell you that Chicago Bears running back D'Andre Swift was at his best in 2025. In his third turn as a full-time starter (and second with the Bears), each of Swift's total yards (1,087), yards-per-attempt (4.9), and yards-per-game (67.9) were career bests as a no. 1 back. At 54.7 percent, his rushing success rate also stood atop his career marks. Pro Football Focus gave him an 81.0 grade that put him 11th among 55 qualifying backs. Again, a career best. If head coach Ben Johnson has it his way, Swift is already setting the stage for new heights in 2026. "It's the best I've seen him this time of year," Johnson said. "And you look back at a year ago, he was very explosive, and yet it takes a little while to gel between him and the offensive line. I think he's accelerating his vision here at this point. I think Coach Studesville has been fantastic for him just with the reads and being able to know the intent of where we're trying to hit things. He hits it right on the spot when it's there, and then he cuts it up. I think he's doing a really good job right now. I think he's primed for a big year, though." Swift's first year in Chicago, back in 2024, wasn't a bad year. It was, however, a drop across the board from what he'd turned in with the Philadelphia Eagles in the season prior. Especially as far as his success rate, which sat at just 43.9 percent. The eye test showcased in inability to read the lanes behind a less stable offensive line compounded with turnover in the offensive staff. In his first season with Johnson, however, Swift was able to form one of the league's best backfield tandems alongside Kyle Monangai. There was a more assured running style than we saw in the season prior, with Swift & Monangai combining to take over games in multiple instances last season. That Johnson is impressed at this stage of the preseason speaks to the growth of not only Swift, but those blocking for him. Even with the ascent of Caleb Williams under center, the running game remains the foundation on which Johnson's offensive scheme resides. If the head coach's insight is any indication, Swift's second year in the system could propel him to even higher career marks than in Year 1.

(Mark Busch) By Michal Dwojak The Chicago Bears got some good injury news Monday as they started preparation for Sunday’s season-opener against the Carolina Panthers in Charlotte. Running backs D’Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai both returned to practice after dealing with injuries. The Bears, however, didn’t get wide receiver Rome Odunze back after he left Thursday’s practice early with an apparent injury. Swift left Thursday’s two-hour practice during the final drill. He ran for a nice gain but then grabbed at his core and left the field quickly. It was reported that Swift suffered from a cramp. Bears head coach Ben Johnson didn’t meet with reporters Monday to provide any injury updates. Monangai returned to the field after missing the past three weeks with a knee injury. He suffered the injury one day after the Bears’ preseason opener against the Cleveland Browns when he tangled legs with a defensive tackle during a non-padded practice. Monangai reportedly suffered a hyperextended knee, and it kept him out until Monday. It’s encouraging news for the Bears running back room that is essential to the offense’s success this season. Swift rushed for a career-high 1,087 yards and nine touchdowns, while Monangai rushed for 783 yards after the team selected him in the seventh round last year. Odunze missed his first practice of camp Monday after looking like his old self over the past month, which was encouraging given how last season went. He missed the last five games of the regular season last year after a foot injury limited what he could do. Odunze returned for the team’s two playoff games. The Bears are hoping that Odunze can recover from Thursday and be ready for the start of the season. Johnson will next speak with reporters before Tuesday’s practice. ## Rookies prepare for debuts Sunday will be the first time most of the Bears rookies will take part in an NFL game. Even though they have played in three preseason games this month, the Bears rookies realized the difference that would take place Sunday in Charlotte. “It’s really exciting,” tight end Sam Roush said. “Obviously, it will be a new experience, but at the end of the day, I’ll be playing football, so I think I’ll feel comfortable. It was nice to kind of get some preseason games under my belt just to continue to rep plays.” First-round draft pick safety Dillon Thieneman said it finally hit him over the weekend that he had made it to the NFL. Thieneman spent most of the spring and summer learning as much as he could to be ready for Sunday’s opener. But now that he’s actually game planning for the Panthers, Thieneman felt like he had finally made it. The speed of the game is something that most rookies struggle to adjust to early on in their careers. Thieneman has been working hard at catching up to the speed to be ready for whatever he faces Sunday. “I think just more tendencies and some of the little things, just from the vets,” Thieneman said. “You understand stuff, you understand what they’re saying. But it’s like understanding it and acting on it and anticipating it are a few different things. Like they’ll say something in a meeting, and I’ll be like, ‘Yeah, I knew that was coming,’ but not like jumping on it.” Chicago Bears safety Dillon Thieneman talks to teammates during their preseason game against the Cleveland Browns earlier this month at Soldier Field in Chicago. (Mark Busch) ## Practice notes Chicago held a light 40-minute practice Monday as players worked their way back to the field after having three days off for the Labor Day holiday weekend. The Bears mostly spent time working on individual and positional drills. They ended practice with a special teams period, while quarterbacks and some receivers worked on a drill. Players will return to the field for practice Tuesday. They’ll have an off day Wednesday before going back to work at Halas Hall on Thursday and Friday. They’ll then hit the road for Charlotte. ## Taking attendance Chicago had a near-perfect attendance Monday as they started preparing for the Panthers. Odunze was the lone player to not take part in practice. Linebacker D’Marco Jackson returned to practice for the first time in a week after he was away with an apparent injury. Defensive end Austin Booker took part in the second straight practice after he hurt himself in a joint practice with the Cincinnati Bengals earlier this month. Booker had been considered week-to-week with a groin injury. The team will officially send out its first injury report Wednesday.
