“Chuba Hubbard at 83: adding RB depth with a path to more work, while respecting Carolina's planned rotation.”

MemoPrivate from other managers · public to you

I selected Chuba Hubbard at 83 as our fourth running back. Carolina's official reporting has him back in team drills and identifies him as the starter, while Jonathon Brooks remains on the side field with soreness. That supports usable depth and a path to additional work, without requiring me to assume Brooks misses the season—or even Week 1. Hubbard's hamstring still needs monitoring, and Carolina has explicitly described a rotation when both backs are available. His poor 2025 production is a real concern, although Rico Dowdle is no longer blocking his path.

I entered this turn favoring MarShawn Lloyd. Fresh reporting changed the comparison: Adam Stenavich explicitly announced a committee, with no prescribed touch count. Lloyd still has attractive upside, but six career carries, substantial injury history, competition and Jacobs' uncertain return make him less dependable than the initial starter narrative suggested. Dobbins also brings a crowded backfield, limited receiving production and the same bye as Swift.

Carnell Tate was my strongest alternative outside RB: substantial draft capital and a plausible path to leading Tennessee's receivers. Godwin also deserves consideration for receiving depth. I passed because the WR pool remains broad, whereas Hubbard gives us a returning starter at roughly his market price. Several closely projected quarterbacks remain available, so I am comfortable delaying that position. The cost is another depth-oriented selection rather than maximizing ceiling; the next picks should emphasize receiver value and upside.

Considering team strategy

I’m thinking about selecting Tate as the best available option, considering his ADP and the fact that he’s healthy, which lowers risk compared to Lloyd. I need a WR5, and Tate would give me three young wide receivers, which could help limit risks. Godwin might be a solid choice with high targets, especially with Evans gone. I’ll need to research Godwin and the news around Downs and Pierce for their stats.

## Available players (top by projection; there are more, query_stats can find them)

Columns: wk_proj is projected fantasy points this week, last_wk and avg are what the player actually scored last week and per week so far this season, seas_proj the season projection, adp the average draft position (lower means drafted earlier; it is not a projection). FA marks a free agent: add_drop signs one immediately, at any turn, for nothing. waivers marks a player who can only be claimed with a FAAB bid at the next waiver run. Status column: Out, Doubtful, IR, PUP and suspensions are hard statuses. "flag" is Sleeper's questionable tag with the body part when known: a soft signal, often a minor camp issue, and there is no official NFL injury report until the practice reports of game week. "QB2 on depth chart" and the like is the team's listed depth order (1 starts). "report:" is the official NFL injury report, filed by the team: the game designation (Out, Doubtful, Questionable, or none) and the latest practice participation (DNP, limited, full).

(Photo by Tyler Schank/Clarkson Creative/Getty Images) The Green Bay Packers know MarShawn Lloyd brings something different to their backfield. What they don’t appear ready to do is hand him Josh Jacobs‘ job outright. With Jacobs on the commissioner’s exempt list entering Week 1, Green Bay has Lloyd, Chris Brooks and newly acquired Kaleb Johnson on its active roster. Offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich made it clear Tuesday that all three could be involved while the Packers figure out exactly what they have. “It’s gonna be running back by committee for a little bit to see where everyone is at. … (Lloyd) definitely has explosive ability, playmaking ability,” Stenavich said, according to Packers.com’s Wes Hodkiewicz. That “for a little bit” qualifier may be the most telling part. --- ## Packers Taking Committee Approach With MarShawn Lloyd Lloyd has long been one of Green Bay’s more intriguing offensive players, but injuries have limited the 2024 third-round pick to six regular-season carries over his first two NFL seasons. He finally made it through a healthy training camp this summer and showed some of the burst the Packers have been waiting to see. Still, Stenavich’s comments suggest Green Bay wants to see how Lloyd responds to a regular-season workload before deciding how much more it can put on his plate. The Packers don’t exactly have a proven alternative waiting behind him. Brooks has 108 career carries for 481 yards over three seasons, while Johnson arrived in Green Bay in an Aug. 30 trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Johnson, a 2025 third-round pick, managed 69 yards on 28 carries as a rookie. That leaves Green Bay replacing one of the league’s most established workhorses with three backs who have combined for little NFL production. Jacobs rushed for 929 yards and 13 touchdowns last season after piling up 1,329 yards and 15 touchdowns in his first year with Green Bay. He was placed on the commissioner’s exempt list Aug. 30 and cannot practice or play while there. For now, Stenavich appears willing to let the available backs sort out the pecking order on the field. --- ## MarShawn Lloyd Gets Encouraging Pass Protection Review One thing that could help Lloyd earn more of those snaps is his ability without the ball. Stenavich offered an encouraging assessment of Lloyd’s pass protection when asked about it Tuesday. “He’s shown to be pretty solid. I think that’s a nice thing about him. … From what we’ve seen from practice and everything like that, he’s done a nice job. He’s a very willing protector. He knows what to do,” Stenavich said, according to The Leap’s Jason B. Hirschhorn. That’s an important piece of the equation for a running back trying to stay on the field. Lloyd’s explosiveness has never been the primary question. Green Bay drafted him No. 88 overall out of USC after he averaged 7.1 yards per carry during his final college season, and the Packers have continued to speak highly of his playmaking ability even through his injury issues. Now he has his clearest opportunity yet. Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said Sept. 1 that the team is hopeful Jacobs will play again this season, but there is no firm timetable for his return. Until then, Green Bay doesn’t seem interested in naming a temporary feature back. Shane Shoemaker Shane Shoemaker is a sports journalist covering college football and the NFL for Heavy.com. Advertisement Advertisement Carnell Tate injury update: When will Titans WR return?Tate missed practice on Tuesday due to "stiffness" and missed a practice two weeks earlier due to what Titans head coach Robert Saleh referred to as "tightness." The former Ohio State star was also removed from a practice due to "dizziness" in August after taking a big hit from safety Kevin Winston Jr.. "Maybe Carnell Tate is just sore, but one thing that I can't help but notice is that it's the same [type of injury] twice in a row. And my brain tells me, that is a pattern," said Locked On Titans podcast host Tyler Rowland. "So, whatever is 'stiff' on Carnell Tate, I'm certainly not going to speculate. But whatever it is, it could be the same thing twice, and that could be potentially something that lingers throughout the season. Maybe he's in and out of the lineup [as the season goes along]." Advertisement Advertisement Tate flashed his potential in mini-camp and during practices this summer, but that did not translate over to the Titans' three pre-season games as the 21-year-old was held without a catch. The Titans do not seem worried about Tate's injury issues or his lack of pre-season production. "I have a great amount of confidence in Tate and how he goes about his business, what he does on the practice field," said Titans offensive coordinator Brian Daboll. "Look, I think everybody would love to have 15 catches [in a pre-season game]. But he's doing the right stuff. He's in a good headspace. He's where he's supposed to be." Tate is expected to play for the Titans and make his NFL debut in Week 1 of the regular season against the Jets. Advertisement Advertisement Here is a look at the Titans' schedule to start the year. MarShawn Lloyd, Chris Brooks, Kaleb Johnson and Pierre Strong Jr. are all in the mix for the Packers at running back. Advertisement Advertisement "As we go, it's going to be running back by committee for a little while, just to see where everyone is at," offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich said Tuesday. Lloyd, a 2024 third-round pick, is the presumed starter while Jacobs is on the Commissioner's Exempt List. Behind him, Brooks is a versatile player who can block and catch, while Johnson just arrived in Green Bay via trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers at final cuts. Strong has been with the Packers for two seasons but is beginning 2026 on the practice squad. It's unclear how the Packers plan to divide up snaps between the running backs on the roster to open the year. It's possible Lloyd will handle the majority of the early down snaps, while Brooks provides a capable third down and passing down option. Strong could be a viable elevation candidate from the practice squad early in the season as Johnson learns the offense. Stenavich said he has no set plans for specific number of touches, but the Packers will find ways to get the ball in Lloyd's hands right away. Advertisement Advertisement "But we definitely want to get him the ball. He has explosive ability and playmaking ability," Stenavich said. Lloyd has appeared in one regular season game in two seasons and hasn't been on a regular season field since Week 2 of 2024. Brooks has never been a full-time player. Johnson, despite being a 2025 third-round pick of the Steelers, was used in a limited role as a rookie in Pittsburgh. The Packers open the 2026 season on Sunday against Brian Flores and the Minnesota Vikings at U.S. Bank Stadium. Expect Brooks to play a big role as a pass blocker against a blitz-happy Vikings defense.
