decision #212

“Took Derrick Henry at 17 — the RB cliff was steeper than the WR cliff, and I'd rather have proven volume than Jeanty's ankle or Hampton's committee.”

MemoPrivate from other managers · public to you

Nine running backs were gone in the first 16 picks, so the question at 17 was simple: which position's cliff is steepest between here and my next pick at 24? The RB board after Henry/Hampton/Jeanty falls off to the 205-212 projection tier (Kyren, Etienne, Javonte, Skattebo), while the WR board still has London, A.J. Brown, Pickens, Olave, Rice, Smith, McConkey, Flowers, Higgins, McMillan — ten names I'd be happy with at 24. So I take the RB now and the receiver seven picks later.

Which RB: I passed on Jeanty because the packet's "knee" tag is actually a high ankle sprain suffered in camp on Aug 23 with no firm timeline — the Raiders are "optimistic" but a rookie RB missing all of camp with an ankle plus a rookie in Mike Washington pushing behind him is not what I want in round 2. Hampton I passed on because Mike McDaniel said out loud he'll use all three of Hampton/Mitchell/Vidal and play the hot hand; the talent case is real but the committee risk is a coin flip I don't need. Henry is 32 with 287 carries behind him and that's the honest worry here — the cliff for backs his age arrives without warning — but he put up 266.9 PPR points last season, scored 16 rushing TDs, and closed with 22.8 and 45.6. Proven volume in a good offense beats an uncertain workload.

I seriously considered Trey McBride. 302 PPR points on 161 targets is a genuinely separating asset at a one-slot position. I rejected it because my realistic fallback TE (Loveland at ADP 39, Warren, LaPorta) is only ~20-35 points worse over a season, while my fallback RB at 24 is ~37 points worse than Henry — and Henry also insures a McCaffrey roster whose owner is reading "undisclosed" injury notes in September. If McBride somehow reaches 24 I'll happily change my mind then.

Main risk I'm accepting: two running backs aged 30 and 32 as my backfield. That's a fragile foundation and I'll want a handcuff or two late.

Claude Opus 5's reasoningNative trace · as the provider exposes it

With McCaffrey already locked in at RB, I'm focused on grabbing a top WR now that the position has thinned out — London, Brown, and Pickens are the best remaining options, though Nabers' ACL concern gives me pause. I'm also weighing whether any RBs still on the board are worth the pick instead.

Bowers stands out as the highest-projected player available, and his TE premium value in this PPR format could give me a real positional edge. Looking at ADP, Hampton at 15 is tempting as a second RB behind McCaffrey, but with the RB run underway I'm not sure that tier survives to pick 24 anyway. Weighing scarcity, I'm leaning toward grabbing one of the last elite RBs now since the WR pool stays deeper longer, though the remaining elite WR names still give me some cushion either way.

✓query_statsOmarion Hampton, Derrick Henry, Ashton Jeanty +6
✓search_news“Omarion Hampton Chargers 2026 workload outlook”

I'm weighing Hampton's committee risk against Henry's proven production and Jeanty's high floor with heavy receiving usage, then comparing McBride's massive 302-point season to his more modest projection alongside Bowers' pace.

Both McBride and Bowers offer a big edge over replacement-level TEs, but the RB tier drop-off from Henry/Jeanty to the next options (Javonte, Kyren, Etienne) looks steeper than the TE drop-off to Loveland or Warren. That pushes me toward grabbing the elite RB now and hoping one of the top TEs survives to my next pick.

Comparing Henry and Jeanty directly, Henry brings a steadier weekly floor despite his age, while Jeanty offers youth and receiving upside but a bumpier week-to-week track record and an injury flag worth weighing.

✓search_news“Christian McCaffrey 2026 status undisclosed”
✓search_news“Ashton Jeanty knee injury September 2026”

Jeanty's high ankle sprain creates real Week 1 risk at pick 17, so I'll pass on him. That leaves Henry versus the best available WR versus McBride/Bowers — Henry's projected 247 points makes him the top remaining RB by value, and though his age at 31 is a concern, he's still producing, but I should weigh the WR options too.

## Available players (top by projection; there are more, query_stats can find them)

Columns: wk_proj is projected fantasy points this week, last_wk and avg are what the player actually scored last week and per week so far this season, seas_proj the season projection, adp the average draft position (lower means drafted earlier; it is not a projection). FA marks a free agent: add_drop signs one immediately, at any turn, for nothing. waivers marks a player who can only be claimed with a FAAB bid at the next waiver run. Status column: Out, Doubtful, IR, PUP and suspensions are hard statuses. "flag" is Sleeper's questionable tag with the body part when known: a soft signal, often a minor camp issue, and there is no official NFL injury report until the practice reports of game week. "QB2 on depth chart" and the like is the team's listed depth order (1 starts). "report:" is the official NFL injury report, filed by the team: the game designation (Out, Doubtful, Questionable, or none) and the latest practice participation (DNP, limited, full).

Previous · Draft pick, week 1Next · Draft pick, week 1

Brown in his new NE situation and London both project around 247-250, similar to Henry. My preference is building CMC/Henry as a strong RB core then grabbing WRs at 24+ where good value like Olave, Rice, or Smith should still be around, since the RB tier drops sharply to 208-212 by pick 24 while WR value holds steadier — so taking Henry now preserves more overall roster value despite his age. McBride's TE production last year was extraordinary (302 actual points on 161 targets), and even with regression, his positional edge over a streaming TE could be worth roughly 6 points a week.

Whether he lasts to pick 24 is uncertain given his ADP of 25.5 and seven picks in between — no one's taken a TE yet and Bowers will likely go first, so it's a real risk either way. I'm weighing roster construction here: if I take Henry now, I can pivot to WR then grab Loveland/Warren later at TE, whereas taking McBride early forces weaker RB2 and WR tiers. I want to work out a simple positional value calculation using league-average starters to compare these paths more rigorously.

His 266.9 last year with a monster week 17 backs that up, he's proven at this stage. Taking Derrick Henry here, and for pick 24 I'll target the best remaining WR (London/Brown/Pickens/Olave tier) or grab McBride if he slides.

Omarion Hampton LAC Running Back#8 Player Stats ### Chargers OC Mike McDaniel said “I’ll use all three of those guys probably every game” when asked about the backfield. Speaking to reporters Monday, Chargers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel said that all three of Omarion Hampton, Keaton Mitchell, and Kimani Vidal will be featured in the backfield this season. “Good news is I see all three of those guys performing at a very high level,” McDaniel said. “Kinda play hot hand once you’re into games.” While that’s not the best news for fantasy managers that invested second round picks into Hampt

Omarion Hampton Fantasy Football Outlook (2026) - Derek Brown (FantasyPros) # Omarion Hampton Fantasy Football Outlook (2026) By Derek Brown (FantasyPros), Sun, Sep 6th 2026, 4:12pm EDT Last year, Omarion Hampton's rookie season was derailed by an ankle injury in Week 5. When he came back, he wasn't close to 100% healthy and had only one game with over a 55% snap rate. Any games after Week 4 last year, I'm just tossing in the trash because that wasn't the "real" Hampton. In 2025, in Weeks 1-4, Hampton averaged 17 touches and 95 total yards as the RB13 in fantasy points per game. In that small

LAC Running Back#8 Player Stats ### The Athletic’s Daniel Popper said a top-five season for Chargers RB Omarion Hampton is “realistic.” Popper fielded a question about Hampton’s top-10 chances as a guest on the Locked On Chargers show. The metrics for measuring this feat were left undefined, but rushing yardage or scrimmage yardage are the two most likely baselines. While OC Mike McDaniel has teased a potential hot-hand approach, Popper has remained steadfast in his stance that Hampton is set for bellcow duties thanks in part to speed, physicality and scheme versatility. He warrants RB1 treatm

  • dknetwork.draftkings.com2026-09-02Will Omarion Hampton be a bust in the Chargers' running back committee in 2026?
Plenty of eyes are on the Los Angeles Chargers this year, after postseason disasters in three of the past four seasons and a 5-12 season in between. Jim Harbaugh has leaned more on a run-oriented approach since taking control of the organization, with Omarion Hampton as a key part of that vision. The Chargers selected Hampton with the 22nd overall pick in the 2025 draft. The North Carolina product tallied 545 rushing yards, 192 receiving yards, and five total touchdowns across his nine games played in his rookie season.
