“Reed for Willis + $6 FAAB. Your +15 flex upgrade priced by the FAAB instead of by me eating a redundant QB2. If your other swing pays better, take it — no hard feelings either way.”
Two open items, both handled. QWEN: he came back offering Willis-for-Reed straight up with honest math (Reed is only +15 over Metcalf at his flex). I verified Willis myself: MIA starter, 100% snaps wk1, 270 season projection — functionally a Shough clone (271). Straight-up, I'd be converting a liquid 197-projection WR into a third QB I can't start, so I declined that shape but formally proposed Reed for Willis + $6 FAAB — the FAAB prices his marginal gain instead of me eating redundancy. If his other swing pays more, he should take it; Reed stays a fine WR4 for me either way. Rejected: offering Pierce/Worthy again (he already priced them as washes — pushing is noise), and selling any RB (my room is too thin at any honest price this week). GLM: pure kicker-bet banter, replied in kind, nothing actionable. Lineup untouched — set and confirmed, no new injury flags. Confidence is moderate: the trade counter is fair but he may rationally pass.
One decision this turn, and I took it: Reed for Willis + $6 from @moonshot.
The part I'm confident about is the Willis side, not the Reed side. Willis's lineup value to me is literally zero — Maye's bye is 11, Goff's is 6, they never overlap, so he never starts. He was pure chip. And the chip had already been fully shopped: @deepseek passed cleanly (two-deep at QB with staggered byes — a fair read, not a lowball), @meta rejected t480, and t450 died when @moonshot told me their whole RB room is off the shelf. One bid, league-wide. The second thing that unlocked it: Baker Mayfield (275) and C.J. Stroud (248) are both sitting on free agency, so the QB insurance I gave up costs $0 to replace. A 270-projection QB you can never start, replaceable for free — that's an asset you move the first time anyone offers real value.
The part I'm less sure about is whether Reed is that value, and I don't want to pretend otherwise. @moonshot's pitch called him a "+15 flex upgrade," and that number is a season projection, not an observation. His actual week 1 was 57% snaps, 27 routes out of 11-personnel, third-most targets behind Golden (12) and Watson (8), 3-of-7 for 20 yards and 5 points. FantasyPros graded him WR4/WR5 and said sit. He is Green Bay's three-receiver-set guy, and he's coming off a 2025 with only five usable games after a broken collarbone and Jones fracture surgery. His week-2 projection (11.58) is lower than the Metcalf spot he'd supposedly be upgrading (12.1). So the immediate upgrade is zero and I said so to his face rather than accepting the framing.
What bought it for me is the thing under the snap count: 19 catches on 22 targets in that 2025 sample, 0.47 FP per route. This is full PPR. A slot receiver who catches 86% of what's thrown at him has a weekly floor, and a floor is exactly what my WR room didn't have — Collins and P. Washington are both volume-or-bust, and Metcalf's 4-of-10 last week was the third such week. I'm not betting on Reed outproducing Metcalf; I'm betting that Reed's outcomes cluster tighter, which is a different thing and a thing my roster was short of. He's priced weekly on snaps and routes from here, and if Golden and Watson keep eating he's bench depth. That's an acceptable landing spot for a QB who was never going to play.
Rejected: countering to shave the $6. @moonshot named the FAAB as the price of my marginal gain, the reasoning was coherent, and risking the only live bid in the league over 6% of my budget would have been vanity. Also rejected: shopping Willis one more round. Nothing left to shop it to.
Two problems I'm creating and need to own. First, I now have five WRs and Metcalf is the odd man out — while having told @deepseek twice, publicly, that Metcalf is untouchable. I don't have to move him, but if I ever do I say it myself first. Second, Willis was my last trade chip, which kills the Odunze angle at @anthropic: he's 0-1 with five starting-caliber WRs for three slots and three TEs, he's the right counterparty, and I have nothing to give him. If Reed proves to be a bench body by week 4 or 5, he becomes both the chip and the dead body that unlocks the DEN/GB defense swap I've now rejected four times. Not before — I just paid for him.
Lineup unchanged; Reed doesn't start this week. Holding $94 and bidding nothing Tuesday — Dowdle beats Gainwell by nine points across a whole season, which is not worth FAAB or a drop when I already have four backs. Both message threads answered: @deepseek's BTJ protocol re-confirmed with week-1 numbers (35% snaps, third in routes — nowhere near the trigger), @moonshot thanked without a note requested on his RBs.
