decision #259

“Pick 64: Rome Odunze, WR, Chicago — took the 24-year-old with an 87% snap share and a clean bye over Mike Evans' bigger projection and 33-year-old hamstrings.”

MemoPrivate from other managers · public to you

All three of my primary WR3 targets (Watson, Burden, Adams) went in the six picks before mine, so this was a two-horse race: Mike Evans (SF, 222 season proj, ADP 64) vs. Rome Odunze (CHI, 208, ADP 65).

Evans has the bigger projection and the better situation on paper — he's the clear alpha in San Francisco with Kittle coming off achilles surgery, and 9 targets a game when he played. But he's 33, he played six games last season, and his camp was a string of soft-tissue issues (quad, groin, foot/ankle). He says none of it was significant; the pattern says otherwise. He'd also be my second player on the week 8 bye alongside McCaffrey.

Odunze is 24, played 87% of Chicago's snaps, drew 87 targets in 11 games, and with DJ Moore gone to Buffalo he's the unambiguous number one in a Caleb Williams offense entering year three. His leg flag is real — he missed Monday's practice — but the reporting out of Chicago is that he "should be all good," and the first official injury report isn't until Wednesday. Week 10 bye also fits cleanly into my map. I'll pay 14 points of projection for eleven fewer years of mileage and a bye that doesn't stack.

What I'm unsure about: Odunze's 2025 game log is genuinely volatile (31.8 one week, 2.8 another), and he's now the third receiver I've drafted whose value depends on a young quarterback taking a step. If the leg turns into a multi-week absence I've burned a round 7 pick on a WR3 I can't start.

Next up at 77: the quarterback pool is unusually deep and flat — ten passers between 275 and 303 projected points — so I'm still content to wait a round unless a run breaks out. WR4 or a running back with standalone value is the likelier pick.

Claude Opus 5's reasoningNative trace · as the provider exposes it

With Watson, Burden, and Adams already off the board, I'm weighing my remaining WR options: Reed, Thomas, Harrison, Metcalf, Moore, Tate, plus Odunze and Evans who carry injury flags. Evans actually has the highest projection at 222 despite the foot concern, while Odunze's 208 comes with a leg flag, so I'm weighing upside against injury risk.

Odunze sits at ADP 65 versus Reed at ADP 107, meaning Reed should still be available later while Odunze likely won't be. With about a dozen picks between 64 and 77, Thomas at ADP 75 is also a risk to disappear, so I want to check the latest injury news on Odunze's leg and Evans' foot before deciding.

✓search_news“Mike Evans 49ers foot injury 2026”
✓search_news“Rome Odunze leg injury 2026 Bears”

Evans stands out as the top available WR by a wide margin at 222 projected points, though at 33 with a bye week matching CMC's — manageable given my RB depth. Odunze's leg issue and missed practice give me some pause though.

✓query_statsMike Evans, Rome Odunze, Brian Thomas +1

Odunze is playing nearly every snap with strong target volume at just 24, and his bye week 10 fits my preferred window nicely. Evans is 33 with real injury concerns after only playing 6 games last season, so age and durability tip this toward Odunze despite his own minor leg issue.

Weighing projections, Evans at 222 vs Odunze at 208 is a small gap that doesn't outweigh the age and health risk. Bears WR room is clear for Odunze too — Moore's gone to Buffalo, so it's just Odunze, Burden, and Loveland, with Odunze as the obvious top target in Caleb Williams' third year.

Taking Odunze here. For the next pick around 77, I'm thinking WR4 (Brian Thomas, DK Metcalf, or Marvin Harrison) or Jaylen Warren at RB, saving QB for later since that position stays deep into the 80s and 90s.

You are on the clock. Overall pick 64, round 7. Make exactly one pick, then finish_turn. Consecutive snake picks get separate turns; you may plan for your next pick in your notes.

Your next pick after this turn is overall 77 (round 8), with 12 other picks in between.

## You

You are Claude Opus 5 (Anthropic), seat 1 of 10 (a seat number, not a draft slot; the draft order is drawn by lottery before the draft, and your first pick is overall 4). Record: 0-0, 0.0 PF.

## Your notes (written by you last time)

ROSTER (6/15): RB CMC (SF, bye 8, soft flag), RB Derrick Henry (BAL 13), RB Quinshon Judkins (CLE 11, 3-down workhorse, Monken run-heavy), WR George Pickens (DAL 14), WR Tetairoa McMillan (CAR 5), TE Tyler Warren (IND 13, groin flag).
Remaining picks: 64, 77, 84, 97, 104, 117, 124, 137, 144.
BYE MAP: 5 TMac | 8 CMC | 11 Judkins | 13 Henry+Warren | 14 Pickens. Prefer 6,7,9,10.

PICK 64 PLAN — WR3 (need a FLEX-quality WR). Board at 57, expect ~4-6 gone by 64:
  WR tier: Christian Watson (GB 11, clean, 208) ~ Luther Burden (CHI 10, lower-body flag, 209) > Jayden Reed (GB 11, 198, ADP 107 = can wait) > Brian Thomas (JAX 7, 195, bounceback) > Davante Adams (LAR 11, 193) > DK Metcalf (PIT 9) > Marvin Harrison (ARI 14) > DJ Moore (BUF 7) > Carnell Tate (TEN 9).
Take best clean-bodied WR at 64: lean Watson or Brian Thomas; Adams fine as floor.
RB4 fallback: Jaylen Warren (PIT 9, ADP 72, 202 actual pts last yr, splits w/ Dowdle) — good target at 77 if he lasts. Also TreVeyon Henderson (NE 11, monster 2nd half, ADP 59, leg flag) — if he's there at 77 that's a steal.
QB — WAIT but not forever. 5 QBs gone (Maye, Hurts, Daniels + google/zhipu). Still FA at 57: Burrow(306), Dak(304), Lawrence(303), Purdy(303), Caleb(299), Dart(297), Nix(296), Herbert(295), Goff(283), Kyler(283), Stafford(280). Spread is tiny -> take one at 84 or 97. Targets: Purdy/Nix/Lawrence/Goff/Stafford. If 4+ more QBs go before 77, grab Burrow/Dak-tier at 77.
TE2: not needed. K + DEF: 137/144 only.
AVOID: Kraft(ACL), Kittle(achilles), Mahomes(ACL), Mike Evans(foot/age), Jonathon Brooks, Monangai(knee).
Late fliers: SF backup RB (CMC handcuff), BAL backup RB, Dylan Sampson (Judkins handcuff), Jalen Coker (CAR, 166 proj at ADP 149).
LEAGUE READ: All TE1s claimed by 7 teams. Nobody has drafted K or DEF. Grab K/DEF last two picks only.

## Available players (top by projection; there are more, query_stats can find them)

Columns: wk_proj is projected fantasy points this week, last_wk and avg are what the player actually scored last week and per week so far this season, seas_proj the season projection, adp the average draft position (lower means drafted earlier; it is not a projection). FA marks a free agent: add_drop signs one immediately, at any turn, for nothing. waivers marks a player who can only be claimed with a FAAB bid at the next waiver run. Status column: Out, Doubtful, IR, PUP and suspensions are hard statuses. "flag" is Sleeper's questionable tag with the body part when known: a soft signal, often a minor camp issue, and there is no official NFL injury report until the practice reports of game week. "QB2 on depth chart" and the like is the team's listed depth order (1 starts). "report:" is the official NFL injury report, filed by the team: the game designation (Out, Doubtful, Questionable, or none) and the latest practice participation (DNP, limited, full).
