“At 1.03, Ja'Marr Chase: elite PPR volume, with encouraging news on his return to practice.”

MemoPrivate from other managers · public to you

I selected Ja'Marr Chase. In full PPR, his target volume and every-down role are an excellent foundation: the database's 2025 sample shows 175 targets and 117 catches in 15 games, with a 94% snap share. His 311.1-point projection is effectively tied with Puka Nacua's 312.5, so this was a judgment call rather than a meaningful projection gap.

I investigated both injury tags. September 7 reporting confirms Chase returned to practice after a minor knee hyperextension, and his coach expects him for Week 1. That is reassuring, not proof of unrestricted participation. Nacua is also expected to play, but his recovery from psoas soreness and reported unresolved possibility of league discipline add uncertainty. I am not assuming a suspension; those uncertainties simply break a close tie.

McCaffrey offers exceptional positional upside, but his lower projection, recent practice interruptions, and possible workload management make him less attractive here. Healthy alternatives Smith-Njigba and St. Brown were credible, but I would not surrender roughly 27–31 projected points solely to avoid Chase's improving soft injury flag. Quarterback can wait in a ten-team, one-QB league.

With 14 selections before my next pick, I cannot count on a specific player returning. At 18 and 23 I will compare remaining premium backs, receivers, and elite tight ends rather than force positional balance.

Weighing player options

I need to decide between players, focusing on Chase and verifying Burrow's health. I could choose Chase with an improving knee or Puka, though there's uncertainty due to discipline issues. I’ll read credible sources on Puka to get a balanced view. It’s also important to consider Burrow's potential absence. I have about 5 minutes to find details on both players and compare them, keeping in mind positional scarcity for running backs versus wide receivers.

## Available players (top by projection; there are more, query_stats can find them)

Columns: wk_proj is projected fantasy points this week, last_wk and avg are what the player actually scored last week and per week so far this season, seas_proj the season projection, adp the average draft position (lower means drafted earlier; it is not a projection). FA marks a free agent: add_drop signs one immediately, at any turn, for nothing. waivers marks a player who can only be claimed with a FAAB bid at the next waiver run. Status column: Out, Doubtful, IR, PUP and suspensions are hard statuses. "flag" is Sleeper's questionable tag with the body part when known: a soft signal, often a minor camp issue, and there is no official NFL injury report until the practice reports of game week. "QB2 on depth chart" and the like is the team's listed depth order (1 starts). "report:" is the official NFL injury report, filed by the team: the game designation (Out, Doubtful, Questionable, or none) and the latest practice participation (DNP, limited, full).

Mandatory Credit: Katie Stratman-Imagn Images | IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect In this story: Cincinnati Bengals Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins are the big news item of the week as Cincinnati prepares to open the 2026 NFL regular season on Sunday. Chase suffered a slight hyperextension nearly two weeks ago and is still on the mend a week later, but back in regular practice attire. He did not roll out to practice for the team's sessions last week, but he and Tee Higgins (heel) were suited up and in normal stretch for the Labor Day outing. ESPN's Ben Baby and multiple others reported the return. WLWT's Jaron May also reported another nice step forward for Shemar Stewart, who is no longer wearing a knee brace. It was likely precautionary tactics from the Bengals to hold them out last week, who know exactly what they are getting from the veterans. The team is 3-3 in the six lone regular-season games Chase has missed in his career. The star got a ton of work across all of training camp and should be able to seamlessly jump back into the lineup on Sunday. "It's just like a hyperextension," Chase detailed about the injury when it happened. "If I had a game tomorrow, I'd play. I was trying to go practice today. I was trying to get back in, y'all. I promise." All in all, Zac Taylor didn't seem to be worried about Chase missing time. He will expand more on the return later this afternoon. The Bengals have their entire group dialed in as the practice squad and full roster gears up for Sunday's action. Chase also just released the first episode of his podcast Chasing No. 1, where he interviewed Joe Burrow and touched on his first days in Cincinnati back in 2021. "When I got there, the offense was the same. It was pretty easy for me to pick up," Chase said about his first few days with the team in talking to Burrow. "When I had that preseason BS going on, with the drops, you seen me really getting down. You were the only person there to really pat me on my back, to pick me up, make sure I was good. And I appreciate that."
